Owner Dean Little and his team have built everything from spaceships to gothic palaces, all constructed to standards that can be viewed at 20 times life-size on a movie screen. Construction for the entertainment industry demands the best from tradesmen, Dean said.

"The standards for construction in the movie industry are extremely high. When projected onto a movie screen, your work is seen much larger than life, so it really has to be done right. Joints have to be tight and cuts have to be perfect - you can't get away with faking or filling, Plus, you have to be able to build anything, no matter how unusual the shape or scale."

Dean and his 14-member team apply the same level of skill to their residential renovations. Examples of recent DRL projects include:

• A complete gutting and interior rebuild of a turn-of-the-century Vancouver home, which replicated all the historic charm of the original building while effectively giving the owner a brand-new, completely updated home;
• A major addition which included changing the roofline and almost doubling the living space of a 1200 square foot home; and
• Interior rebuild and exterior refinishing of a 6,000 square foot warehouse and retail complex in Vancouver, currently completing construction.

Since starting his unique renovation business two years ago, Dean has never advertised. Word-of-mouth promotion from delighted clients keeps his crew busy and their portable 12 by 30 foot workshop – another idea lifted from the movie industry – moving from job site to job site.
